[Week IX] Movie Review: HANCOCK

Hancock is a humorous action comedy that is fun to watch. We all do know the line ‘with great power comes with great responsibility’ which is known for all superheroes except Hancock. Hancock is about a man who is a superhero (Super strength, flight, immortality, and invulnerability), but he’s really lazy and a drunkard that he causes too many mayhem and destruction while doing ‘superhero stuff’ which causes a lot of people to dislike him. One day, he saved a man named Ray Embrey, a corporate public relations consultant, from a train and Ray is willing to help Hancock to change into a better person. Ever since that day, Hancock and Ray became close friends. Ray managed to convince Hancock to change his way and has become the newest ‘superhero’ in the public.

However when Hancock finally changes his way and becomes a true superhero, Hancock finds out that Ray’s wife, Mary, has similar powers as his and eventually learns that Mary was his wife. Another twist is that if Hancock and Mary are close, their powers will start to fade and turned them into ordinary humans. The film ends with Hancock left Chicago and moves to New York where he starts his new life as a superhero while Mary and Ray along with their son continue their life as family.

The film was hilarious with all the humors and craziness although later it becomes even more serious and the humor has been tone down. Will Smith, the famous actor who plays the title character Hancock, did performed great playing the character especially with Hancock’s quote ‘Call me asshole one more time.’ The morale of the story is ‘with great power comes with great responsibility.’ It was a great movie and a lot of laughs and actions. I would give it 7 out of 10.
